The Secret Place of the Most High by Aije Barnes, December 2 Issue 2 Vol 2

The Secret Place of the Most High

Psalms 91

HE WHO dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall remain stable  and  fixed under the shadow of the Almighty [Whose power no foe can withstand].  I will say of the Lord, He is my Refuge and my Fortress, my God; on Him I lean  and  rely,  and  in Him I [confidently] trust!  For [then] He will deliver you from the snare of the fowler and from the deadly pestilence.  [Then] He will cover you with His pinions, and under His wings shall you trust  and  find refuge; His truth  and  His faithfulness are a shield and a buckler.  You shall not be afraid of the terror of the night, nor of the arrow (the evil plots and slanders of the wicked) that flies by day,  Nor of the pestilence that stalks in darkness, nor of the destruction  and  sudden death that surprise  and  lay waste at noonday.  A thousand may fall at your side, and ten thousand at your right hand, but it shall not come near you.  Only a spectator shall you be [yourself inaccessible in the secret place of the Most High] as you witness the reward of the wicked.  Because you have made the Lord your refuge, and the Most High your dwelling place,  There shall no evil befall you, nor any plague  or  calamity come near your tent.  For He will give His angels [especial] charge over you to accompany  and  defend  and  preserve you in all your ways [of obedience and service].  They shall bear you up on their hands, lest you dash your foot against a stone.  You shall tread upon the lion and adder; the young lion and the serpent shall you trample underfoot.  Because he has set his love upon Me, therefore will I deliver him; I will set him on high, because he knows  and  understands My name [has a personal knowledge of My mercy, love, and kindness--trusts and relies on Me, knowing I will never forsake him, no, never].  He shall call upon Me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble, I will deliver him and honor him.  With long life will I satisfy him and show him My salvation. (Psalm 91:1-16 AMP)

There are many secret places, but only one God wants us to dwell or abide in. This secret place is called the secret place of the Most High. It is where His presence is evident by His shadow over you.  In that place there is safety and no harm can befall you or even come near you. Because you are in the presence of the Lord in this place, you have angels attending to you all the time, defending and preserving you to ensure you are kept out of harms way. From God's secret place, you become a spectator of the bad things that happen to those who are not where you are.

It is a place of exercising the authority God has given you, over  the enemy. It is the place where you know and understand the power of God's name and His Supremacy over all things. It is the place where you learn to rely on and trust Him. It is in this place you grow from faith to faith and glory to glory. It is the place of prayer and from where you receive answers to your prayers and God's blessings. The treasures and truths that exists in the secret place of the Most High are clearly defined in Psalms 91. No wonder king David said in the Psalms: For a day in Your courts is better than a thousand [anywhere else]; I would rather be a doorkeeper  and  stand at the threshold in the house of my God than to dwell [at ease] in the tents of wickedness.  For the Lord God is a Sun and Shield; the Lord bestows [present] grace  and  favor and [future] glory (honor, splendor, and heavenly bliss)! No good thing will He withhold from those who walk uprightly. (Psalm 84:10, 11 AMP)

So where is this secret place of the Most High you may ask?

In the days of the Law of Moses,  it would have been a building called the temple or the House of the Lord, where the people of God would go and worship Him.  In those days, there was a place in the temple called the holy of holies where the ark of the covenant was kept and the presence of God was. Then, it was  only the high priest, who could go in there to offer up sacrifices both for himself and the children of Israel. Whilst he did this, he was hidden from view by a curtain.

When Jesus died on the cross, this curtain was torn asunder and the way into the presence of God was made available to anyone who would believe, accept and confess Jesus as the sacrifice that was made for us, once and for all, on the cross.

From that time, once you have accepted Jesus as your Saviour and Lord, your body becomes the temple of God where His presences abides.

When Jesus was speaking to the Samaritan woman who was asking him where the right place to worship was, he replied; the time is come and now is that the true worshipers shall God in Spirit and truth.

The secret place of the Most High, where you, as a true worshiper, should worship God in spirit and truth, is in you.

You have a choice where you want to dwell. Psalms 91 tells us what happens to the one who dwells in the secret place of the Most High and what happens to those who don't.

To dwell in the secret place of the Most High, you would need to walk after the Spirit. This means you have to go where He leads.

The scriptures also says; there is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness. For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live. (Romans 8:1, 6, 10, 13 KJV)

This gives a clear distinction between the person who dwells in the secret place of the Most High and those who don't.

Dwelling in the secret place of the Most High also means you being in constant awareness of His presence and being in fellowship with the Holy Spirit. In this place because of your awareness of The Father's presence and your Fellowship with the Holy Spirit, communicating with God constantly in prayer  becomes natural. It is from this secret place that you let God know what you desire and He will reward you openly just like what Jesus said in the following scripture:  But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly. (Matthew 6:6 KJV)

The year is coming to a close and the coming of our Lord is nearer than before  Let us make the secret place of the Most High our dwelling place from today until the day He returns to take us home to be with Him forever.

I encourage you to share this with everyone you love.

May the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Love of God our Father and the sweet fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you now and always. Amen.

Remain Blessed
