How Clean is your Temple By Yvonne Harrison Secretary Women's Power Hour

P
reparing your home to receive guest can be stressful, especially, if it’s their first time visiting your home.  One such a time I was like a woman possessed; I cleaned everything in sight, washed, vacuumed, dusted, polished, fluffed and plumped, until the house gleamed.  I pulled out all the stops with a   gourmet menu to die for!  My home was hardly recognizable as it looked like a show house!  My family was dressed in their Sunday best; we looked like the model family as we received our guests.  We had a pleasant evenTo be truthful, I was out to impress and I succeeded in keeping up appearance of the model housewife.  Today is a very different story; if you ask my family and friends to comment on the presentation of my home they would say it may not always be tidy but it’s always clean; but most of all you will feel welcomed and at home.   This experience brought to my remembrance, the early stages of my relationship with Jesus as my Lord and Saviour.  I tried to create a good impression with Him not allowing Him to see me for who I really was; not realising that He already knew!
ing; our guests couldn’t enthuse enough about how lovely our home was and how well maintained it was etc, etc.  The guest’s wife commented to me how easy I made everything look; I felt a pang of guilt, but now wasn’t the time to correct her!  We had a pleasant evening but I was relieved when it was over; my family breathed a huge sigh of relief when our guest had gone.  I was just about to give myself a pat on the back to say ‘job well done’ when I felt a tug in my spirit.  God was there the whole time He saw everything!

There were areas in my life that I would not allow Him into; like some of the rooms in our homes that we do not allow guest into unless they were clean and tidy.  My physical home was clean but how clean was my temple?  “...your body is the temple (the very sanctuary) of the Holy Spirit who lives within you, whom you have received [as a Gift] from God? You are not your own…”1 Corinthians 6:19 (Amp)

There were areas in my life that had become the junk room for ungodly things, this room remained firmly shut.  I tried numerous times to clear out the junk room by riding myself of bad habits and addictive behaviors to no avail.  It stayed clear for while but inevitably the clutter returned.  (Rom 7:21)  Eventually I learnt that only through Jesus Christ could I no longer be slave to the law of sin.  (Rom 7:25)

We can’t do the job by ourselves; we need the power of the Holy Spirit and the cleansing blood of Jesus. (Rom 15:13; Heb 9:14).

Jesus is the one who restores the temple of our hearts to a right spirit of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, gentleness and self control which are the fruits of the Spirit. (Gal 5:18-23) He will clear out our junk room ridding us of all bitterness, rage, anger, debauchery, and the like when we ask for his help.  We just need to be obedient and willing to allow Him go into the dark and cluttered areas of our lives and clear out all the junk as He directs.  Now allow Him clean the Temple
