If we were to write the Lord's Prayer line by line, the third line would read 'Hallowed be Thou name'.
What does hallowed mean? And what is His Name?
The dictionary definition of hallowed is: regarded as holy, venerated (treat with reverence) and sacred.
And His name?
This is what the scriptures says:
'And Moses said unto God, Behold, when I come unto the children of Israel, and shall say unto them, The God of your fathers hath sent me unto you; and they shall say to me, What is his name? what shall I say unto them? And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you. (Exodus 3:13, 14 KJV)'
Our Father has revealed to us that His name is I AM.
God is.
Hebrews 11:6 says: But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him. (Hebrews 11:6 KJV)
In the bible God has revealed to us many attributes of who He is, some of which I have listed below:
The Lord is a warrior; the Lord is his name. (Exodus 15:3 NIV)
For the Lord is righteous, he loves justice... (Psalm 11:7 NIV)
So trust in the Lord (commit yourself to Him, lean on Him, hope confidently in Him) forever; for the Lord God is an everlasting Rock [the Rock of Ages]. (Isaiah 26:4 AMP).
And Moses built an altar, and called the name of it Jehovah–nissi (The Lord is my Banner): (Exodus 17:15 KJV).
For the Lord is our judge, the Lord is our lawgiver, the Lord is our king; he will save us. (Isaiah 33:22 KJV).
Surely God is my help; the Lord is the one who sustains me. (Psalm 54:4 NIV).
The Lord declared the following to Moses revealing both His name and who He is - a loving, holy, faithful, merciful and righteous one.
Then the Lord came down in the cloud and stood there with him and proclaimed his name, the Lord. And he passed in front of Moses, proclaiming, “The Lord, the Lord, the compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness, maintaining love to thousands, and forgiving wickedness, rebellion and sin. Yet he does not leave the guilty unpunished; he punishes the children and their children for the sin of the parents to the third and fourth generation.” Moses bowed to the ground at once and worshiped. (Exodus 34:5-8 NIV).
Meditate on the Greatness of who God is and remember this whenever you pray 'Hallowed be Thou name'
God is Holy. His name is Holy and we must come before and worship Him with reverence.
