Look! I’m standing at the door and knocking. If any hear my voice and open the door, I will come in to be with them, and will have dinner with them, and they will have dinner with me. (Revelation 3:20 CEB).
When we exchange what we give to Jesus at the dinner table with what He gives to us, Isaiah 61:3 tell us what the outcome will be: "They [you] will be called oaks of righteousness, a planting of the Lord for the display of his splendor. (Isaiah 61:3 NIV)".
In part 1, I shared with you how we can share our dinner with Jesus and in doing so, being completely open to him and allow him take part in every area of our lives.
This communion with Jesus brings great transformation to our lives and extends to our household. The Samaritan woman who Jesus met at the well and Zacchaeus both enjoyed this amazing experience.
I will now share with you what it means for Jesus to share His dinner with us.
I believe it is not a different occasion, time or place, but rather happens at the same time you share your dinner with Him except you share with Jesus first and then, He with you.
You see, when your heard His voice and opened the door, the first thing Jesus said he would do, was to come in to be with you. By this, I believe Jesus meant to abide or stay with you. This therefore means your dinner with Him and His dinner with you are not two separate occasions but rather the same event. It is a communion or fellowship with each other.
Jesus makes this clear further on in the same chapter by the following:
" I counsel you to buy from me gold refined in the fire, so you can become rich; and white clothes to wear, so you can cover your shameful nakedness; and salve to put on your eyes, so you can see. (Revelation 3:18 NIV)" .
And again in Isaiah 61: "and provide for those who grieve in Zion— to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of joy instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair. They will be called oaks of righteousness, a planting of the Lord for the display of his splendor. (Isaiah 61:3 NIV)".
What a beautiful picture! The outcome of Jesus sharing His dinner with us is truly transforming! It calls for humility on our part, to first to recognise how desperately we need Him to enrich, clothe and heal us as He said He would in the Rev 3:18. Also, in addition to this in Isaiah 61:3, a crown of beauty, the oil of joy and the garment of praise in exchange for our undesirable state. This promise is for those who grieve in Zion - the people of God! Just as the starting message from Jesus, was and still is, for the church.
Following Jesus requires dying to 'self' and living in Him.
Come, let us have dinner with Jesus and enjoy the blessings thereof to the Glory of His name.
Much love
