Your kingdom come, Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. (Matthew 6:10 AMP).
We see from this verse in the bible that God's will is being done in Heaven. Jesus taught us to pray that His {God's} will is also done on earth as it is in Heaven.
God's will on earth involves our participation in that we need to be willing to submit in reverence and obedience to His will. This is not always easy and can sometimes be painful. However the end result, if we submit to God's will, is always for our benefit.
Jesus went through a similar turmoil as shown in the following scripture:
Going a little farther, he fell with his face to the ground and prayed, “My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will.”...
He went away a second time and prayed, “My Father, if it is not possible for this cup to be taken away unless I drink it, may your will be done.” ...
So he left them and went away once more and prayed the third time, saying the same thing. (Matthew 26:39, 42, 44 NIV).
The book of Luke reveals further a bit more of the anguish our Lord was going through as shown in the scripture below:
An angel from heaven appeared to him and strengthened him. And being in anguish, he prayed more earnestly, and his sweat was like drops of blood falling to the ground. (Luke 22:43, 44 NIV).
All of this preceded Jesus' arrest and subsequent torture before being crucified and left to die on the cross.
This was God's will so that through Jesus's death and resurrection we can be reconciled to Him and become His children too - only if we believe and receive him as our Lord and Saviour. This was the only way. As the scriptures says: without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness of sin:
[In fact] under the Law almost everything is purified by means of blood, and without the shedding of blood there is neither release from sin and its guilt nor the remission of the due and merited punishment for sins. (Hebrews 9:22 AMP)
This blood had to be pure. The blood of lambs and rams in the Old Testament only covered sins but the previous and pure blood of Jesus washes them away. This is why the bible refers to him as the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world.
This is the beautiful outcome for those who accept Jesus as Lord and Saviour. I have, however as a child of God the refining process goes on some of which can be painful. Some of it involves 'walking through the valley of the shadow of death' -which is not a very nice place to be, feeling overwhelmed with what life throws at me in all types of shapes and sizes both directly and indirectly and some real down in the valley or wilderness moments.
I always draw strength from the knowledge that God is with me always and sends encouragement, help and support when I need it most. I also know that through it all He is refining me and building me into the person he has called me to be for Him. How else can a precious stone become beautiful, useful and bring Glory to its owner except it is first refined in the fire?
I also take comfort from the fact I can approach the throne of God to obtain mercy and find grace to help in my times of need.
Also that Jesus is my High Priest who has been through and understands any pain I could ever go through and he ever intercedes for me.
Here is the psalmist prayer:
Teach me to do Your will, for You are my God; let Your good Spirit lead me into a level country and into the land of uprightness. (Psalm 143:10 AMP).
Will you let this be your prayer? It is certainly mine. I choose to submit to the Lordship of the Spirit of God to lead me into God's will for me. A level country and the land of uprightness sounds like a beautiful place where I would like to be. Wouldn't you?
I encourage you to do the same.

Dear friends and beloved in The Lord,
ReplyDeleteIn this ministration I share with you a little about my personal journey in my walk with The Lord.
God's will may not always be pain free but always remember that He loves you and is always nearby and ready to help you and will help when you call on Him. You only need to trust His greater plan and purpose which is always for your good though you may not feel it during your time of anguish.
Shalom (Peace)
Eternal blessings
