Topic – The Samaritan Woman -

Scripture: JOHN‬ ‭4:14‬ ‭AMP‬‬

“But whoever drinks the water that I give him will never be thirsty again. But the water that I give him will become in him a spring of water [satisfying his thirst for God] welling up [continually flowing, bubbling within him] to eternal life.”
‭‭
So, yesterday I reminded you that in response to Jesus’ request to the Samaritan woman to give him a drink, she immediately became argumentative. Also, that she became even more argumentative after Jesus told her how her ignorance and prejudice was preventing her from obtaining her soul’s deepest need - eternal life.

So what were her responses? First, wondering how Jesus was going to give her living waters, she presented Jesus with her natural understanding of how the problem could be solved and asked him how he was going to address what she saw as a problem. Secondly, she had the audacity to ask Jesus (the One through whom everything created was created- see John 1: 2-3) whether he was greater than her ancestor Jacob, who not only gave her the well, but himself also drank from that well together with his sons and cattle.

Jesus’ response is shown in the opening verse above.

Dear sisters, like this woman, how many times do we think we know best, when it comes to finding solutions to our problems? We at times, as Jesus pointed out, might find temporary relief to our problems by using our own natural resources. However, a permanent solution that will not only satisfy us continually, but also provide refreshing for others, is given by Him alone.

Which one do you prefer?

 *Prayer*

Dear Lord Jesus, of a truth, no one knows and can fulfil my deepest needs except You Lord, who created me. Please  help me to always accept this truth and stop trying to fix things myself, based on my own understanding. Amen
