The Samaritan Woman - Sir, give me this water 💦....

Topic – The Samaritan Woman - Sir, give me this water 💦....

Scripture: JOHN‬ ‭4:15‬ ‭AMP‬‬

“The woman said to Him, “Sir, give me this water, so that I will not get thirsty nor [have to continually] come all the way here to draw.”
‭‭
Finally, this woman showed signs of wanting what Jesus was offering her. However, this was just the beginning. Jesus asked her for more of her commitment by asking her to call her husband and come back.

Not being a Jewish / Samaritan lady, I can’t tell you the cultural significance of this. However, being a married woman, I can see that God recognises the union with your husband through marriage. He sees you both as one and desires to bless you as one body.

Going deeper, the woman revealed to Jesus the truth that she didn’t have a husband. Jesus in turn, revealed to her more of her own truth. This surprised her further and she finally asked him directly whether he was Christ the Messiah they had all been waiting for. Jesus confirm he was (see John 4:26).

But after all this, what was her response to Jesus? Did she actually believe for herself? We shall find out the answer to these questions, in our last devotional on this topic tomorrow.

From this woman’s story so far, we can see that wanting more of God in our lives requires more than just a desire. It requires truth. God wants us to be truthful Him because he wants to heal all our brokenness. The woman could not be whole if her husband was part of that brokenness. In any case, despite the fact that she didn’t have a husband (having already had five and the man she was living with was not her husband), Jesus still wanted to make her whole. This tells us that there’s nothing too complex in our lives for Jesus to heal.

Jesus is still wanting to make us whole. Are we willing to go beyond just wanting this wholeness? This requires us being truthful to him and allowing him to reveal to us our truth.  If you seek him with all your heart, you will find him and receive the healing and fulfilment you seek.

 *Prayer*

Dear Lord Jesus, you said in your word that the time has come and now is, that true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit (from the heart, the inner self) and in truth.  You are the Truth. Help me to be a true worshipper. Amen
