Knowing God's Name Part 5, Aije Barnes, Oct 5 issue 2, Vol 5

“Because he has set his love upon Me, therefore will I deliver him; I will set him on high, because he knows and understands My name [has a personal knowledge of My mercy, love, and kindness–trusts and relies on Me, knowing I will never forsake him, no, never]. He shall call upon Me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble, I will deliver him and honor him. With long life will I satisfy him and show him My salvation.” ‭‭Psalm‬ ‭91:14-16‬ ‭AMP‬‬

Welcome to Part 5 of Knowing God's Name.  Here, I share with you three more names of God.

YAHWEH-M'KADDESH: "The Lord Who Sanctifies, Makes Holy" (Leviticus 20:8Ezekiel 37:28) – God makes it clear that He alone, not the law, can cleanse His people and make them holy.

This what the scriptures says: “Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word, and to present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless.”  ‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭5:25-27‬ ‭NIV‬‬ and... “For by one sacrifice he has made perfect forever those who are being made holy.” Hebrews‬ ‭10:14‬ ‭NIV‬‬.

Being righteous is being in right standing with God. This happens through our acceptance of the blood of Jesus washing away our sins. Being holy on the other hand is being made clean by the washing of water through the word of God. This is a continuous process. This happens when we are being transformed by  the renewing of our minds through God's word.

So you can see that not even being good, obeying the law of Moses or doing righteous acts can make anyone holy. This is what the scriptures says: “But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.” ‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭64:6‬ ‭KJV‬‬.

But God in His has provided a way for us to be righteous and holy. See the following verses...

“Now we know that whatever the law says, it says to those who are under the law, so that every mouth may be silenced and the whole world held accountable to God. Therefore no one will be declared righteous in God’s sight by the works of the law; rather, through the law we become conscious of our sin. But now apart from the law the righteousness of God has been made known, to which the Law and the Prophets testify. This righteousness is given through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference between Jew and Gentile, for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and all are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus. God presented Christ as a sacrifice of atonement, through the shedding of his blood—to be received by faith. He did this to demonstrate his righteousness, because in his forbearance he had left the sins committed beforehand unpunished— he did it to demonstrate his righteousness at the present time, so as to be just and the one who justifies those who have faith in Jesus. Where, then, is boasting? It is excluded. Because of what law? The law that requires works? No, because of the law that requires faith. For we maintain that a person is justified by faith apart from the works of the law.” Romans‬ ‭3:19-28‬ ‭NIV‬‬

YAHWEH-TSIDKENU: "The Lord Our Righteousness” (Jeremiah 33:16) – As with YHWH-M’Kaddesh, it is God alone who provides righteousness to man, ultimately in the person of His Son, Jesus Christ, who became sin for us “that we might become the Righteousness of God in Him” (2 Corinthians 5:21).

Jesus is our Righteousness. And to us who have believed in and received him by faith, we have been made the righteousness of God in Jesus.  This is not an a license for us not to bother doing anything good. On the contrary, becoming the Righteousness of God in Christ Jesus, qualifies us to do the good God has prepared for us to do, as shown in the following scriptures: “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” Ephesians‬ ‭2:8-10‬ ‭NIV‬‬

These righteous works are no longer classified as filthy rages but as: “Fine linen, bright and clean, was given her to wear.” (Fine linen stands for the righteous acts of God’s holy people.)” ‭‭Revelation‬ ‭19:8‬ ‭NIV‬‬

YAHWEH-SHALOM: "The Lord Our Peace" (Judges 6:24) – the name given by Gideon to the altar he built after the Angel of the Lord assured him he would not die as he thought he would after seeing Him.

“For he himself (Jesus) is our peace, who has made the two groups one and has destroyed the barrier, the dividing wall of hostility, by setting aside in his flesh the law with its commands and regulations. His purpose was to create in himself one new humanity out of the two, (Jews and Gentiles) thus making peace, and in one body to reconcile both of them to God through the cross, by which he put to death their hostility. He came and preached peace to you who were far away and peace to those who were near. For through him we both have access to the Father by one Spirit.” Ephesians‬ ‭2:14-18‬ ‭NIV‬‬.

“Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we boast in the hope of the glory of God.”
‭‭Romans‬ ‭5:1-2‬ ‭NIV‬‬

  1. Dear friends,

Here is the fifth part of 'Knowing God's Name series. It very important to your Christian growth and walk with God to know God's name as shown in the opening verse of the ministration.

Knowing God's name is not only of benefit to you but also to those who are not yet believers. Use your knowledge of His name both for yourself and to stand in the gap for them.

    Shalom
