The Secret Place by Aije Barnes, June 2 Issue 1 Vol 5

'He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. (‭Psalms‬ ‭91‬:‭1‬ KJV)'

If you have watched the film called the secret garden, it would give you a beautiful picture of how to enter a secret place place. The film is about a closed off magical garden that can only be accessed through a secret door in the garden wall that is only visible and accessible by a person who not only had the right key but also the right heart.  Although the film is by my definition a good one, it is not the same secret place spoken of in the opening verse.

There is a real life secret place. A place where every human living soul should aspire to be. As with any other secret place, there is a door we would need to go through to enter into this place. This door also has a key.  It is a place of safety as shown in the next verse:

'I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust. (‭Psalms‬ ‭91‬:‭2‬ KJV)'

The sad news is that not everyone finds the door to this secret place and though some may find the door, some do not have the key to enter. Some find the door, have the key and enters the secret place but don't abide or lodge there. But those who do, enjoy the benefits of doing so. The following verses shows you the benefits of dwelling in this secret place:

'Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence. He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler. Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day; Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday. A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee. Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold and see the reward of the wicked. Because thou hast made the Lord, which is my refuge, even the most High, thy habitation; There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling. For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways. They shall bear thee up in their hands, lest thou dash thy foot against a stone. Thou shalt tread upon the lion and adder: the young lion and the dragon shalt thou trample under feet. (‭Psalms‬ ‭91‬:‭3-13‬ KJV)'

What a beautiful, beautiful place to dwell! This secret place is the presence of God. The key is the cross. The door is Jesus.

Jesus' death on the cross gave us access through him into the presence of the Father - the secret place - the place of safety. God has made this place available to anyone who wants to enter, only by His grace - unmerited favour.

For anyone to be able to enter in through  the door with the key, they must have faith.

'For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast. (‭Ephesians‬ ‭2‬:‭8-9‬ KJV)'

The place of safety is required because we have an enemy - the devil.

'Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: (‭1 Peter‬ ‭5‬:‭8‬ KJV)'

In the secret place of the Most High, there's divine safety.  Children of God must remain there.  Those who have not yet given their lives to Jesus must do so to enter in this place.  This is God's promise to those who remain in this place:

'Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath known my name. He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honour him. With long life will I satisfy him, and shew him my salvation. (‭Psalms‬ ‭91‬:‭14-16‬ KJV)'
