Choice is a God-given right to everyone. Love (God) allows you to choose what you want but wisdom (from God) will guide you to choose wisely - if you choose to submit to this wisdom.
The choices you make would lead you to your destination - whether it be good or bad. The choice of Adam and Eve to disobey God led to the fall of man and separation from God. God choose to provide a way for mankind to be reconciled to Him by choosing to give His one and only begotten Son, Jesus, that whosoever believes in him and receives him should not perish but have eternal life. We, in turn, have the choice whether to accept Jesus as our Lord and Saviour or not. He will not force anyone because love does not force but allows us to choose. Love also goes beyond just setting choices before you, it informs you of the consequences of your choices, tells you what the right choice is and advices you to make the right choice for your benefit. This is what the bible says:
'This day I call the heavens and the earth as witnesses against you that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live (Deuteronomy 30:19 NIV)'.
The choice is yours!
This is amazing Love! You see, because God is righteous and holy, He cannot abide sin and sin has its consequences which is separation from God and death. He has however, provided a way of escape through Jesus death on the cross. Jesus said he is the way the truth and the life and no one comes to the Father except by him.
Here, God the Father and Jesus, His Son, have left us with a choice. How will you choose?
You may have already given your life to Christ but how have you chosen to spend your time or live your life? Life gets very busy and we sometimes don't seem to have time to pray and study God's word. Even when we do, how much time do we spend putting it into practice? We sometimes allow the cares of this world steer us away from that which is more important and would cater for our pressing needs.
We tend to quickly forget that Jesus said:
'So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own. (Matthew 6:31-34 NIV)'
Instead, we become easily distracted. In the verse above, the choice is ours whether to worry about temporary things or first seek the Kingdom of God and his righteousness.
The bible is not saying that other things like eating, drinking or wearing clothes don't matter, because they do. What it is saying is, we need to get our priorities right. The prayer we need to pray regarding our particular situation, is to ask God to show us how to do this in our life. This starts with spending time in praying and reading God's word and trusting Him to guide you by His Spirit how to do what He wants us to do. But again our choice plays a big part in this.
God has given us His word and the opportunity to get to know Him better and enjoy the benefits of being His child. This can be achieved by choosing to spend time in studying God's word both on our own and as part of a Christian group and choosing to put into practice what God commands us to do as given in His word, in order to reap the benefits.
The world also presents us with lots of choices as to what to do with the time God has given to us.
If our choices determines our destiny, let us ask God for wisdom to always make the right choices all the time. This is so important because time is ticking away and we will one day have our works tested with fire and have only one person to answer to - God - the One who gave us the time and the choice to do with it what we want.

Dear friends,
ReplyDeleteDecisions, decisions, the choice is yours. Choose wisely. But if serving the Lord seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.” (Joshua 24:15 NIV)'
Shalom
Very good Post! I enjoyed the read, an I am choosing to follow, love and spend time with my Saviour.
ReplyDeleteA very wise choice indeed! Me too!
