Be Impactful Part 1, by Aije Barnes, Nov 3 Issue 1 Vol 4

Jesus said:

“You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot. “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven. (‭Matthew‬ ‭5‬:‭13-16‬ NIV)'.

How impactful are you in your home, office, church, community, amongst your friends, peers colleagues or even strangers? Does your presence always make a positive difference?

If Jesus has called us to be salt and light wherever we are, the purpose is for us to be positively impactful.

There is a lot more on this I shall share with you over the next few ministrations but for now I am sharing with you a broad overview.

Jesus made it clear in the opening verse, that one is as good as useless if like salt such a person has lost his or her savour or in other words effectiveness.

He does not want us to be useless but impactful.

Jesus also emphases this when he calls us the light of the world and uses the example or analogy of how a city or town built on a hill cannot be hidden and how it is not useful to light a lamp and then put it under a bowl (where if there is no oxygen would not last very long and would go out)
but rather it becomes very useful to set it on a lamp stand so that it gives light to everyone in the house.

The opening verse also reveals the type of world we live in, which makes our presence as both salt and light so very important.

Can you imagine eating food with no salt in it; having no salt to prevent the decay of food, thereby acting as a very vital preservative or; having no salt to be able to melt snow to enable you to get around and be more useful outside of the confines of where you are bound? Or a world with no light? It sounds very horrible!

But this exactly what the world is like when we as salt of the world loose our savour and as as light of the world don't let our light shine.

God has saved us for a reason- to be salt and light to the world He loves. He wants to share His love for the world through us.

So let us be impactful!
Shalom
